Project developments:
- In 1996, the Phelex Foundation funded development of Tea
Garden in partnership with Huangjiahe Elementary School
and local government. The total funding was RMB 25,000.
- In 1997-1998, the Tea Garden produced 184 kilograms of
tea leaves.
- At the beginning of the project, tuition aid program offered
tuition assistance to 8 needy students including 6 girls,
and teacher's award at total cost of RMB 4,500.
- The project was not running smoothly. Local management
team did not cooperate well. After the trial period, the
Foundation had to discontinue the financial support to the
program. This is the first failed project for the Phelex
Foundation. We realize that supervision of the management
team is crucial to the success of the project. This team
is represented by Community Council.
