Project developments:
- In March 1998, the Phelex Foundation funded RMB 35,000
to establish a tea garden and an oil-processing mill. There
was additional RMB 8,300 funding from other sources.
- To ensure the success of the project, the Foundation also
provided tuition aid to 12 first graders, 11 second graders,
8 third and 16 fourth graders in the spring of 1998.
- Mrs. Rollins in the United States adopted the project.
Children at the Dripping Water School wrote letters to thank
Mrs. Rollins' heartwarming support.
- Motivated by the school project, villagers installed drinking
water pipes for the first time in the village, and built
rooms for oil processing equipments. In July 1998, tea processing
brought an income of RMB 5,030.90 to the school after taxes.
The Frances Virginia Bost Rollins Oil Mill gained another
income of RMB 2,886.20. The money was mostly used for tuition
aid. (see the chart below)
- In April 2000, Mr. Rollins from New York visited the project
site. In November 2001, Mr. Fu Zhijiang in Hong Kong donated
RMB 1,200 worth of goods to the Dripping Water School.
- The Community Council in Dripping Water village took the
responsibility to supervised the use of funds and proceeds
throughout the whole tea and oil production. All accounts
appear very clean and clear.
- In May 2002, the Phelex Foundation organized a charity
sale hoping to find a market for school produced tea. The
principal and three children came to Beijing to sell the
Dripping Water Tea themselves, which drew a lot of public
attention and received a great deal of support from people
in Beijing. (see Beijing
Youth Daily reports) The tea sale proves that the sustainable
tuition aid program has worked very well to help children
in the DrippingWater Elementary School.
- In Sept. 2002, the PF staff visited the school, audited the program accounts and understood the distribution of funds of the tea charity sale and Beijing citizens' donations, and book storage. In the spring and autumn, the school funded 116 needy pupils at a cost of RMB 7, 991.4, and spent RMB 3, 037 from the tea charity sale in setting up a multi-functional classroom with books, music, computers and English study. Left RMB 13, 942.4 of the tea charity sale fund. According to the community council's solution, all books donated by Beijing citizens were registered. A centralized management and strict library system were performed to ensure no books lost.
- In Mar. 2003, Dripping Water green tea, registered a trademark of ‘Green Dripping Water', passed authoritative certification of experts from home and abroad and was produced on scale.
- In Apr. 2003, Beijing TV reporters went to Hubei and specially covered the ‘Green Dripping Water' tea tuition aid program.
- In May 2003, the ‘Green Dripping Water' tea samples passed the test of the Commodity Quality Supervision and Testing Center of Drinks and Tea of Chinese Business Association.
- In Jun. 2003, the program made transaction on the Internet through the tuition aid information system of www.zetagreen.com for the first time.
- In Jul. 2003, students and teachers of Tao Hangzhi Institute of the people's University of China held the ‘Green Dripping Water' tea charity sale on their campus.
- On 16-21 Sept., 2003, Dripping Water Elementary School funded by the PF held the tea charity sale for tuition assistance in Shanghai Hall of Science and Technology, Fudan University, Yonghe Elementary School of Zhabei district and commercial area of Fuzhou road, helped by Shanghai Society of Tea, the Society of philosophy department and the CYLC of Shanghai Fudan University, Shanghai Youth Center of Huangpu district and Shanghai Yonghe Elementary School of Zhabei district. - In Oct. – Nov. 2003, the ‘Green Dripping Water' tea charity sale continued at some universities in Beijing and Shanghai .
- In 2004, the program gained RMB 21, 789.5 proceeds, volunteers donated RMB 750. In Feb. 74 needy pupils were funded at a cost of RMB 2, 936.15 .
- In May 2004, the program funded 187 needy pupils at a cost of RMB 4, 081.84 .
- In Sept. 2004, the program funded 35 needy pupils at a cost of RMB 1, 888.95 .
- In 2004, the school was widely paid attention by people from home and abroad. Volunteers from Shanghai , Zhejiang , Beijing , Dalian and etc supported the tuition aid activity through tea purchase, donations, voluntary teaching and etc.
